Is there anyone on this board that ever got the chance to meet him before he died?

I met him in November of 1989 (really!) and knew him for the rest of his life.
Does that count? ;)
He was a great guy...

Unfortunately, I never got to meet Jonathan; however, when I was young I wrote him and received a letter back. It was a cookie-cutter response that included an autographed picture of him. Now that I see the overwhelming amount of mail he received at the time I realize that it was more than likely an assistant that sent me the letter, but I was tickled to death with it nonetheless. I carried it with me everywhere and showed everyone. They thought I was a dork but I didn't care! :-B I wish I would've kept a copy of the letter I sent to him, though, if there was a slight chance that he actually saw it. It is probably better that I don't have a copy - I'm embarrassed to think of the teen angst that may have been included in it. :ymblushing:

Anyhoo, I digress. Of course, time moves on and I grew up. Going through life's changes I totally forgot about the letter. Then at the end of last year (before the 10th anniversary of his death) I was doing some house cleaning. I come across some old letters from high school friends that I saved and decide to read them for a blast from the past. Then BOOM, there it is! :D I was like oh my gosh, I can't believe I forgot about this since it meant so much to me!!! I tore it open, read it, and then cried for a little bit. It got me thinking about him again and that is what brought me to this wonderful website!

I wish now that I would've tried to meet him. I don't get hung up on celebrities but there was just something about him. There will definitely be no other for me. It speaks volumes, though, about how a little action can change someone's life. That letter probably meant nothing to him but it sure is something I treasure now and will for many more years to come. :)

toni-476, don't undersell yourself. Although Jonathan received thousands of pieces of mail, his 'assistants' (that was his mother and a few hand-chosen members of his fan club) often gave him anything that seemed special or different and he often would call a phone number that was sent to him.

The conversation almost always went the same way:
(rrrring - rrrring) Hello?
Hi.
Who's this?
It's Jonathan Brandis.
No it's not! (click)

He also answered personally more than once in a while, and he DID personally sign almost every letter that went out in his name. It was interesting to watch his signature develop from the typical 8th grade kid's to the flamboyant cover boy's over the years.
