Normally the redundancy is an ADSL link which can easily re-route IP addresses and such over within minutes should the fibre link go off the air.

However they dug up everything in one scoop. Not even Spike had a hope of dealing with this one.

The router I am using CAN support 3G/4G connectivity however I was a bit slack in thinking and thus it only dawned on me a day later, as I was more concerned about all the activity outside in the hope we could get the main link up rapidly; there ARE service level agreements in place on that which means I am eligible for compensation as a result of this outage. Which is just as well as the fibre costs quite a penny.

Prior to the 2 recent major outages there was another (albeit short) outage which was simply due to the fact that Telstra, in their infinite wisdom, did not feel that a corporate level service did not require power surge or power redundancy, and thus with every flicker of the electricity the fibre link would drop out. I resolved that by installing my own UPS in the cabinet in the telecoms room.

To be honest in some ways I am regretting getting a corporate fibre service, as it seems to be less reliable than an ADSL link. And yes, the last outage cost me a couple of paying customers too. Not surprising really.

Anyway I am promised Tuesday for the fibre to be restored fully. In the meantime I am preparing for that and configuring the router so that the transition across means we have no outage to deal with.

Okay so tomorrow is still a planned date to finish restoring the fibre.
There may be some brief interruptions (i.e. 10 minutes at a time) while transitioning back; however most of this will be done seamlessly, behind the scenes.
This will all take place tomorrow (Tuesday) morning Australian time which is during Monday afternoon US West coast time.
Videos will be live once the transition back is complete.

Main Internet links have been restored, barring some tweaking. I am migrating things back to the main links now, this will happen over the course of the next several hours, and should be seamless i.e. nobody will even notice it at all, other than some extra speed :)

The main links are now live and tweaking completed.
There was some downtime associated with the crossover & tweaking but this is now well & truly over.

The videos are back live now. Please inbox me if they do not work for you.

Thanks

As long as those 'fibres' bear no resemblance to eucalyptus, I think we're safe.
In the meantime, we'll just keep an eye on this koala - he's still a suspect, cute or NOT.

OKAY! THIS HAS TO STOP! AS SOON AS I UPLOADED THAT D*%N KOALA THE SITE CRASHED ON ME! IT'S THE KOALA, I TELL YOU!!!

Oh my goodness! Well there wasn't anything major here so it could have just been transient. Some people are having to reboot their computer and/or Internet modems before the site works.

I am monitoring everything and as soon as I spot anything I am jumping onto it quite fast.
