Has anyone ever watched a film or TV series that was as good as or at least did justice to the book it originated from?

The Harry Potter series is probably the only one I can think of that hasn't been a disappointment. I think it's nearly impossible to satisfied with a movie based on a book you've enjoyed, it's very unlikely that the characters will come even close to what you pictured in your head.

I agree with you about Harry Potter - they seem to have kept most of the major happenings in! What about Lord of the Rings?

I only ever read the Hobbit, and they skipped right over that.... I guess they plan to make it, I'll have to get back to you in a few years and let you know, lol

Lord of the Rings did I kind of good job at sticking to the books. I only have about a handful of things that annoyed my about the movies.
Arwen got a REALLY BIG role when she's in maybe 2-3 scenes in the book and is mostly a background character.
They left out 'The Scouring of the Shire' and Tom Bombadil from the movie along with the Glorfindel.
Finally the elves did not show up at Helms Deep.
Other than that it was pretty close! Mostly stuff was left out because of wanting more action (for the guys) or it being too slow paced. Also they wanted more girls to come so they kicked up the 'love triangle/love interest' of Arwen and Aragorn.

Annnnd that is my nerdy rant of the day! :) LotR's and Harry Potter are the closest I know of moviewise. The recent movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians isn't too bad at it's conversion. They tweaked it here and there but it's better than most.

i love the harry potter books but i don't like the movies.

i'm also a big lord of the rings fan. (more than harry potter). love the books and also the movies. they did change some stuff but it was acceptable. love how everything looks and also most of the actors they picked.

i remember reading "the horse whisperer" and beinny totally unhappy with the book.

i also think they did a good job with the narnia movies.

Have you read all the Narnia books Kiddo? I'd only ever read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, so I bought them in a boxset. They get a bit, well, weird, for want of a better word! Not sure how they would translate the rest of them to the screen without finding ways to explain why things are happening, especially since they've filmed them out of sequence.

I enjoyed the two they made, but not sure if they intend to do any of the others?
