...but just one little nuclear explosion and the EMP fries your kindle (or nook...or car or computer or house or every electrical thing around for fifty miles) and you have a nice piece of melted plastic. Give me a bank vault and a library full of books. They can't all burn, after all!

Our romance with technology is a little scary. I mean...I know how a record used to work: piece of vinyl with information recorded on it and a needle dragged across it reproduced the sound. Simple. But a CD? or a computer? Okay, you get layers of glass and put electricity through it... Huh?
I'm always afraid I'm going to have to rebuild civilization and I'm going to be the one stuck with 'reinventing the CD player'.
Great.
Where do I even start? :seeingstars:

Okay. I have some aluminum foil, a paper-towel roll, some printer paper, some tape and a needle. I can build a 'record player'.
Build a CD player with common household supplies. ;)

I must admit, I was a kindle hater before I was given one as a present - I love rummaging in secondhand bookstores, and adore the shelves of books I own. Unfortunately, either I had to give up buying new books, or get rid of a lot of old ones as I read so many and had no room to store any new ones.

It took a while but it grew on me and I get to keep all my old books too :)

Not sure I could build a record player, let alone a cd player.... :S x

...of course, building a book is even easier.
